TalkWorld
=========

Windows 10/11
  1. Unzip this folder anywhere (for example your Desktop).
  2. Double-click "Play TalkWorld.exe".
  3. Pick a server and a room, then Join Room (or Create Room...).
  4. In the "Quick Login" box click Login to play as a guest, or click
     Change... and enter the name and password you registered.

  Register a name with "Register a new name..." in the launcher, or in the
  game type *register <name> <password>. Type *help in the game for commands.

  Voice is push-to-talk: hold the microphone icon while you speak. To talk
  hands-free, switch on automatic recording in Options > Sound options.

  The game opens in a resizable window with the wide view and 60 fps
  movement. Press F11 for full screen. To play in the original 1996 game
  window instead, tick "Use the original 1996 game window" in the launcher.

Linux
  Easiest: get talkworld.deb or TalkWorld-linux.tar.gz from talkworld.org,
  which set Wine up for you. To run this folder by hand instead:
    WINEDLLOVERRIDES="ddraw=n,b" wine "Play TalkWorld.exe"
  The ddraw setting makes Wine use the bundled DDrawCompat, which keeps the
  game at its original speed.

Notes
  - Always start the game with "Play TalkWorld.exe", not talkworld.exe.
    The launcher connects you securely to the TalkWorld servers and keeps
    every player's address private.
  - The launcher uses port 20927 on your own computer only. Nothing needs
    to be opened on your router or firewall.
  - The "client" folder is the new game window. It needs Microsoft Edge
    WebView2, which comes with Windows 10 and 11. Without it the launcher
    starts the original game.
  - ddraw.dll and DDrawCompat.ini are DDrawCompat, a modern fix that lets
    the 1996 game draw correctly on new Windows and caps it at 30 fps.
